WHAT IS IT?
Microdermabrasion treatments use a minimally abrasive instrument to gently sand your skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layer. This type of skin rejuvenation is used to treat light scarring, discoloration, sun damage, and stretch marks.
Microdermabrasion can:
- Improve age spots and blackheads
- Improve hyperpigmentation
- Exfoliate your skin
- Lessen the appearance of stretch marks
- Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
- Reduce or eliminate large pores
- Treat acne and the scars left by acne
Microdermabrasion helps thicken your collagen, which results in a younger looking complexion. Collagen is a protein in your skin that is abundant when you are younger and makes skin look taut and smooth. Collagen production declines as we age resulting in looser, uneven skin.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
The skin is washed to remove excess oil and dirt. Then, a medical professional targets a stream of fine aluminum oxide crystals over the area. The crystals abade away old, dead skin cells, which the vacuum then picks up with gentle suction. This promotes the growth of collagen and new, rejuvenated skin. Moisturizers and sunblock are then applied to the treated area.
DOES IT HURT?
Microdermabrasion does not require anesthesia, but may be mildly uncomfortable. Tightness and heat are common side effects that quickly fade.
HOW MANY DO I NEED?
Initially, 5 to 8 treatments spaced 2 weeks apart are recommended for most people. Acne scars and/or discolorations may require more treatments. Monthly maintenance treatments every 2 - 3 months may be necessary to maintain results.
IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME?
One of the advantages of microdermabrasion is that it has no downtime. You can return to your normal routine and apply cosmetics directly after the treatment.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Microdermabrasion results are usually immediate and noticeable. Results improve with multiple treatments and varies depending on skin quality.
